The Pitcher Inn is a luxurious and intimate hideaway set in the heart of the picturesque Vermont village of Warren.

The Atmosphere

Vermont’s Route 100 is one of New England’s great drives as it winds its way the length of Green Mountains, following tumbling river valleys through picture-postcard villages. It’s in one of the more idyllic of these that you’ll find the Relais and Chateaux Pitcher Inn.

In a former Civil War era lodging house with immaculate white clapboard walls and perfectly symmetrical verandas, the inn paints a perfect and traditional New England picture. However step through the front door and it immediately becomes clear that this is an altogether more luxurious proposition.

But as enticing as the Pitcher Inn is, it is the village of Warren and the surrounding Green Mountains that are the real draw. This is Vermont at its best and from active days kayaking the Mad River, casting a fly to wary brook trout or biking to a mountain lake, to lazily meandering from farmer’s market to local producers, there is something for everyone. Sugarbush Ski Resort is five minutes from the inn and the famed Warren Store, one of Vermont’s classic country stores, is directly opposite.

Your Room

To describe the Pitcher Inn’s rooms as simply ‘themed’ would be to do them an injustice. Yes they are exactly that but they are also impeccably designed flights of fancy that are, at the same time, luxurious, welcoming and comfortable. From the more traditional Chester Arthur, named after the native Vermonter and 21st President, and School, modelled after Warren’s own one room schoolhouse, to the brilliantly imaginative Trout, complete with fly tying desk and local fish mounts, and Mountain, your very own log hewn cabin in the woods, the attention to detail does not miss a beat. For families the simpler but very spacious two room suites in the separate barn are the best option.

Food and Drink

Executive Chef Sue Schickler oversees 275 Main, the inn’s fine dining restaurant whose farm to table fare draws diners from far and wide. The freshest seafood, locally sourced meats, Vermont artisan cheeses, locally gathered wild mushrooms and native fruits are artfully combined with fresh and seasonal vegetables and herbs from nearby farms. For craft beers, log fires and classic pub fare, there is Tracks, the inn’s lively tavern.
