A beautifully restored Creole cottage in the heart of Louisiana’s Cajun Country.
The Atmosphere
Maison Madeleine, built in the 1840s, is on the National Register of Historic Places and is nestled among lush gardens on the shores of Lake Martin, a hidden gem that boasts one of the largest wading bird rookeries in North America. The nearby small town of Breaux Bridge is one of the cultural centers of Acadiana and the heartland of the inviting Cajun way of life.
The cottage has been painstakingly restored by current owners Madeleine and Walt Cenac, and sports bousillage walls (a mud and Spanish moss mix), antique-filled rooms, wide porches and an exterior staircase leading to the two guest suites.
Your Room
The two bedrooms at Maison Madeleine have been decorated with an notable eye for detail and are extremely comfortable. They can be joined together to form a two bedroom suite, perfect for couples traveling together. The external staircase and separate entrance provides plenty of privacy. Adjacent to the cottage, the ‘Quirky Yurt’, has recently been opened to guests as well.
Need to Know
A delicious hot country breakfast is served each morning and, while dinner is not served every evening, we highly recommend taking one of the Roux La La cooking classes held several times a week. These hands-on evenings are taught by well known local Cajun chefs who will help you prepare favorites such as crawfish étouffée or chicken and sausage gumbo.
