Set amid vineyards in the pretty Carmel Valley, Bernardus Lodge is an intimate oasis that will soothe your soul and please your palette. This is laid-back California luxury at its best.

The Atmosphere

Tucked away on twenty-eight acres of rolling vineyards, fragrant orchards, and vegetable gardens, this little piece of heaven is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. With only a twenty minute drive to Carmel and the ocean, it’s also the perfect base from which to explore the wider area.

The private, low profile bungalows are built into the hillside or on the edge of a vineyard, leaving plenty of open space for loggias, a croquet lawn, an outdoor fire pit, and lots of little quiet nooks to retreat to. The hill top whirlpool is our favorite spot to watch the sun set over the Santa Lucia Mountains.

Your Room

The rooms are carefully designed to integrate into their surroundings, with seagrass wall coverings, wood floors, marble and mosaic tiles, and custom made furniture. All rooms include a two person soaking tub, fireplace, and king sized featherbeds with goose down comforters and Italian linens. French doors open onto private terraces or balconies with some of the suites enjoying private fire pits and outdoor showers.

Food & Drink

Lucia, the hotel’s well-known restaurant, features upscale California cuisine, much sourced from their onsite gardens and regional farms. The wine list is as long as your arm and a popular chef’s table offers an intimate behind-the-scene dining experience.
