Santa Barbara
Days 1 & 2
Your journey begins with a drive up the stunning California coast to your first stay– San Ysidro Ranch. Hidden in the hills of Montecito outside the bustle of downtown Santa Barbara, this historic oasis is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Private, exquisite cottages provide a fragrant refuge amongst lavender fields and citrus groves. From here, you’ll venture out to explore the best of ‘the California Riviera’ from a morning beach trail ride to a sunset sail on the Pacific Ocean.
Santa Ynez
Days 3 & 4
Spend your morning wandering Lotusland Foundation with one of the garden’s caretakers. This botanical wonderland fills acres with gorgeous fauna on the former estate of eccentric socialite and opera singer Madame Ganna Walska. Next, head further up the coast into the heart of the Santa Ynez wine country. Auberge’s newly renovated Inn at Mattei’s Tavern will be your home for the next two nights. Reimagined with new luxurious touches while paying homage to its interesting past as a stagecoach stop and speakeasy, it’s the perfect place from which to enjoy the area’s blossoming fine dining scene and acclaimed wineries.
Big Sur
Days 5 & 6
Onwards and upwards to one of the most stunning stretches of the California coast: Big Sur. Taking a winding single track trail through the redwoods to fern-covered Partington Creek before climbing through oaks to reach a coastal overlook is not to be missed. Armed with a gourmet picnic, you’ll descend to a quiet sandy beach, watching the waves roll onshore and gently breaking against the time-weathered rocks. Embark on a hike with a specialist guide who will teach you how to identify edible and nonedible mushrooms, along with numerous other edible and medicinal plants such as Redwood Sorrel, California Sagebrush and Bay Laurel.

Days 7 & 8

Your final stay is Bernardus Lodge, set amid 28 acres of vineyards, fragrant orchards and gardens in the verdant Carmel Valley. Bernardus Lodge is laid-back luxury at its best. You can relax by the giant outdoor fireplace, indulge at the spa or take a restorative soak in the hill top whirlpool. Enjoy your final full day with a private whale watching boat trip. Then it’s time to begin the drive back down the coast, with the perfect opportunity to explore the lesser known Pinnacles National Park and stop in the Paso Robles wine region for lunch.
