In many ways, Georgia road trips encompass the best of the Deep South.

Dynamic Atlanta, the natural wonders of the Golden Isles, and the magical city of Savannah are just some of the highlights of one of our favorite states.

The last of the 13 original colonies, Georgia was established by the British as a barrier to the Spanish in the south. The enterprising James Oglethorpe was the original founder and it was his vision that we can thank for the stunning squares of Savannah. One of the key states in the confederacy, Georgia was the last state to be restored to the union after the Civil War, not before Sherman’s March to the Sea had razed multiple cities, including Atlanta. It is testament to this great city that it rose from the ashes to become one of the most dynamic, successful cities in America.

The moss-draped live oaks of the south are ever present in Georgia and spring brings a riot of flowering magnolia trees. The Georgia coastline is one of the natural wonders of America, as well as being one of the least traveled. Home to the longest contiguous salt marsh in the world, it’s a bewildering maze of tidal creeks, golden marsh, barrier islands and pristine beaches. Home to a huge diversity of wildlife, it’s a birder’s paradise and watching loggerhead turtles nesting on the beach is an experience not to be missed. It’s an environment that is just waiting to be explored, whether by boat, kayak, or with a fly rod in hand.
